In accepting this position, our youth choose to serve as a helper to the congregation and pastor; performing a number of important functions before, during and at the close of the worship service. An acolytes largest participation in the worship service is by lighting and extinguishing the altar candles. In this tradition, the lighting of the altar candles in the worship service is a symbol of Jesus’ coming into the presence of the worshiping community.

This position serves as one of several unique opportunities for youth members in our congregation to begin to grow in their knowledge of the Church and live their faith in service to their Lord and Savior. It further serves to instill an adult sense of responsibility, and seeks to provide each youth participant with a meaningful hands-on experience that will help them to grow in their own faith and reverence for God’s Word.

Our acolytes wear robes, and are seated in the Narthex during the service. These positions are open to all youth middle school age and older. Please contact the church office for more information.
